They look easy indeed.  However, gnus-picon.el is a bit, er,
incomprehensible.

Does anybody want to either clean it up or write a new one?  If nobody
pipes up, I'll take a whack at it...

Installing the picons themselves is easy.  "apt-get install picon.*"
