The Lucida faces were designed specifically for display on CRTs; IMO they
do an excelent job of it.

The TrueType Lucida Sans and Lucida Sans Typewriter faces do indeed have
italic representations.  I use them frequently (thank you, whomever is
responsible for the TrueType renderer in XFree86 3.3.3).  Unfortunately
they are not freely available, which means you have to pay for them if you
want them.
