It seems like at least 0.23 loses mail. So far I've seen 3 mails Qmail
delivered to mailbox, and looking at nnmail-split-history Gnus seems
to have put them to right group. However, there's no sign of those
mails in the group.
Is there a known cure for this ?-)

Huh. Are the mails really not in the group, or does Gnus just refuse
to display them?

I sent in a bug report similar to this. I traced it down to the fact
that it did really exist in my Mail directory, but it had been skipped
over it in the list of articles when I examined the group using 'G
e'. It simply didn't show in the summary buffer.
Of course, I also sent in a bug report about gnus total-expiring mail
it shouldn't have and haven't heard back about either report :-) (not
that they're related).

Were there lines in the .overview file for these mails?

Uhm... Were the Message-ID's duplicated? (Yes, I'm grasping at
straws here. :-)

Umm... I'd have to wait for it to happen again... Do you have my bug
report still? It has information that should help. Specifically, it
might be possible to re-create it by hand-editing a group. But, I'd
like to see my report again before I do it (since I submitted it about
a month ago, I've forgotten a lot of what I un-earthed).

If it was sent a month ago, I should probably get to it this evening,
since I'm not back to three weeks old bug reports. :-) Just 8 more
weeks to go before I sleep.

Do you have the mail backend in `gnus-secondary-select-methods'?
