Recent bug fixes have made it smooth sailing, accessing those groups, 'plugged' or 'unplugged'. A situation arose this morning that seems to throw Gnus-agent for a loop. One of the foreign nntp servers is apperantly down, so when starting gnus, when it tries to poll that server, every thing comes to a screeching halt . . . forever. Or until pressing C-g, which ever comes first. Once C-g is pressed, things can continue with the other servers. Then if an agent-fetch is innitiated (J s) again things come to a screeching halt . .. forever, when agent reaches the down nntp server. This can be gotten around by prefixing J-u with a number and only including the groups that are up. But first you have to know or figure out what the problem is because Gnus offers no help in this area. The whole area of the dialog between gnus and nntp servers needs to be toughened up a bit. It seems if any problems occur there, Gnus throws in the towel. No "time-out" no messages, just flopo, down for the count. Or until C-g is pressed.... -- Harry Putnam reader@newsguy.com
