How is this supposed to work?

I tried adding a remote server (sunsite.auc.dk), using 'J a' in the
server buffer, because I didn't want Gnus to open up a connection to
my ISDN router just because I fumble and press g while unplugged.

But with emacs.ding subscribed plugged 'J s' will give:

	Fetching headers for nntp+sunsite.auc.dk:emacs.ding...
Creating directory: no such file or directory, d:/News/agent/nntp/sunsite.auc.dk/nntp+sunsite/auc/dk:emacs

Surely remote servers are supposed to work with the agent?

(Yes, I'm using win95 at the moment, though I finally convinced
Solaris to install on my home machine.)

Have you had any trouble with gnus taking a really long time if your
initial ISDN network connection is down when you do a 'g' or even
start gnus? I get a really long delay that is far longer than it
takes my ISDN box to come up (ie, on the order of a minute plus rather
than 5 seconds like every other think does that accesses the
network). What I'm not sure of is weather its XEmacs related or Gnus
related... I was just about to try a (setq debug-on-quit t) and give
it a test... Well, my WAN light is off, why not now...

please wait...

Grr... Ever had a problem when entering the backtrace debugger takes
*way* too long (ie, never returns?)

please wait...

Uh, never mind... Can't get a backtrace for some reason... Sigh...
Well, don't never mind if you have similar problems, at least tell me
you do!

Uh, not really. If the nntp or pop server is down, it will spend a
long time before timing out, but I suppose that's normal.

Have you considered running FSF Emacs for your Gnus'ing for a while to
see if you can reproduce the problem?

Well... I am not sure... anybody has managed to get a remote server running
under agent? I have the same problem than you...

Solaris is a great OS for x86 machine... I use it at home too.

Sorry for this off-topic message, but does anyone have experience of
Solaris x86 on a dual+ CPU machine?

I'm sure there are people with this experience :-)

Several (pages of) x86 SMP systems have been tested with Solaris 2.6
according to the documentation.

| Sorry for this off-topic message, but does anyone have experience of
| Solaris x86 on a dual+ CPU machine?

I'm using 5.5.1 on a dual Ppro/200 HP Vectra. Pretty nice, but be
sure to get/install the recommended patches. I'd rather be using
Linux, of course, but some quick and dirty benchmarks (building the
code I work on both on this box and on a colleague's box running
Linux with glibc1) show no appreciable performance improvement
in switching.

`(setq debug-on-error t)', repeat the bug and mail me the resulting
backtrace.
