Why does ee run when XEmacs is in an xterm?

I'm noticing "ee" taking up an amazing amount of processing time, and
it's only run on my system when converting X-Face images.  I am using
XEmacs in an xterm so there's no real reason for this behavior.

Here's the output of ps:

I'd suggest switching X-Face display off when not running Emacs under
X.
