I have noticed that when using posting styles it may be that the
user-mail-address does not match the article being
canceled/superseded. I think that when canceling/superseding gnus
should check the posting styles to match the author, however this is
unfortunately open to abuse. I have modified message.el, so that the
checks are not made and so I can supersede/cancel any article but this
also has the nasty side affect of me being able to accidently do some
damage -- and for this purpose I have put message.el back to how it
was. Is there an easy way to get this functionality -- if not its not
too important as I only cancel/supersede say one article every few
months or so.

Many thanks, and opinions welcomed,

Shaun

I used to use this in my .gnus, and it solved the problem.

I can't remember if I found it on this list or in news.

;;(defadvice message-user-mail-address
;; (before generate-user-mail-address activate compile)
;; "Change the value of the user mail address based on the group."
;; (setq user-mail-address
;; (cond ((message-news-p) "adress@for.news")
;; (t "adress@for.mail"))))

I think it could be improved, but my lisp isn't so good to do it myself :)

It doesn't really matter -- what matters is that the Sender header is
correct, since that is what Gnus primarily checks. The posting styles
should not affect the Sender header.

Of course, if you've shot yourself in your foot by disabling that
header, you will have problems cancelling/superseding your articles.
