Funny...

A collegue of mine complaint about garbage collection messages now and
then. So i tried a little psychological experiment and disabled
garbage collection messages by setting `garbage-collection-messages'
to nil without telling him. I told him i did made some optimization.

He was delighted and thanked me for speeding it up ;-)
