Emacs claims that this is an invalid regexp, and it looks OK to me.
Try tweaking it to find out what parts Emacs things are invalid, and
then submit a bug report to the XEmacs developers.

To test, just eval the following in the  *scratch* buffer:

(re-search-forward "\n.*r.*e.*k.*l.*a.*m.*a.*\n.*\n.*\n.*" nil t)
