(That is, Gnus stores the mark on the server, but it doesn't understand it.) What we're discussing is how Gnus is to delete articles -- either expired articles, or just plain deleted articles. The only way to do that is to mark the articles in the server as \Deleted, and then either say "UID EXPUNGE", which will, er, delete the articles, or just say "EXPUNGE", which will delete all \Delete-marked articles in the group. I'm not sure whether the latter is naughty or not. It's tempting to do, because it's so easy, but I have no idea what IMAP users expect to happen.
