Messages I send would get a header field added containing hash(secret+hash(message)). When I send a message to you, the TMDA confirmation request would contain at least hash(message) as computed by you and hash(secret+hash(message)) as contained in my message, if not the whole message itself, which I could use to compute hash(message) if you didn't include it. Given that, a program receiving my mail can verify the the hash in the original message was computed using my secret, and can send a confirmation and drop/reroute the confirmation request. paul
