Hi Wes,
Have you changed something in your outgoing mail settings? The last couple
of forwards I've gotten from you generate the following error when I
attempt to read them with vanilla show:
% show
(Message inbox:4643)
mhn: "message/rfc822" type in message 4643 should be encoded in 7bit, continuing...
[-- Attachment #3: Type: text/plain, Size: 180 bytes --]
So, uh, ??? Should the encoding be different for outgoing
message/rfc822 messages?

I'd like to help you, but I couldn't read the forwarded message.
It was encoded in 8bit instead of 7bit.

This hasn't changed for a while, I think. Try looking at the variable
mm-content-transfer-encoding-defaults, and changing that. I think
it's a misfeature, however---I think Gnus ought to look, and if the
enclosed things are 7bit, then it ought to use that (and otherwise, I
suspect base64 would be safer, although possibly not more readable to
people without MIME MUAs).

Well, the deal is that I'm not setting anything specific in my .gnus
file that should be changing the encoding, so I suspected that
something was actually broken with gnus. Try forwarding yourself
something and I bet it won't work (looks fine in the outgoing
composition... It's not till its un'mml'ified that it seems to get
8bit encoded.
