(find-charset-region (point-min) (point-max))
in --unibyte mode returns `(ascii)', no matter how many æøå's you put
into the buffer.

Ok, if one runs in unibyte mode, and there are characters that are not
in the \000-\177 range, then the characters must be the result of
current-language-environment. How does one go from
current-language-environment to a charset?
