I'd like suggestions on a window manager for use on *nix with Emacs
where there are no other desktop apps except a browser.

I'm not asking what people use or prefer, rather this is a narrow query:

What x window manager best suits the emacs way? Integratable with
Emacs. Scriptable with el.

Best, Ted

Sorry I can't be more specific but I just saw this info I'm about to
relay a few days ago and didn't keep the url. It was a message aobut
using emacs itself as the window manager.

I'm not sure this is the same info but it a goggle search found this:

   http://www.xwem.org/

its about Xemacs but I believe I've heard something similar with fsf emacs.

sawfish see <http://sawmill.sourceforge.net/>.

Description: a window manager for X11
Sawfish is an extensible window manager using an Emacs Lisp-like scripting
language--all window decorations are configurable, the basic idea is to
have as much user-interface policy as possible controlled through the Lisp
language. This is no layer on top of twm, but a wholly new architecture.

Why should it be scriptable if you run only two apps? Have
a look at ratpoison or if it really has to be scriptable (or
if you have to run apps which require a "normal" WM) try
Ion.

Ion use Lua as the extension language. No lisp but in Lua
functions are first class objects and you have closures and
tail recursion. In the scripts section you'll find emacs
like key bindings.

Both window managers deal with X Windows similar emacs deals
with it's own windows.

David

XWEM <http://www.xwem.org/>. 100% elisp, runs in (S)XEmacs (sorry,
XWEM doesn't work with GNU/Emacs). IOW, (S)XEmacs _is_ your window
manager.

It's also available from XEmacs packages, although that version is
slightly dated.

XWEM can't run in emacs.

Because I'd like to put controls, commands and reports in the window
perimeter that change state based on context. Learning, you know.
