Subject: Posting styles semantic change in topic-mode
Date: Mon, 05 Mar 2007 12:17:42 +0100 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <mux3b4kndm1.fsf@uzeb.lrde.epita.fr> (raw)
Hi folks,
I've just commited a small but important change in the way posting styles are
handled in topic-mode (something that had been bugging me for years).
Previously, the posting styles were "inherited" just like any other group
parameter. For instance, a posting style setting in a topic was completely
overridden by a posting style setting in a group.
I have modified this to perform merging of posting style elements (in other
words, the old inheritance behavior occurs on posting style *elements* rather
than on the whole setting).
As a consequence you can now setup posting style elements on a topic, and yet
perform *additionnal* settings on a per-group basis. All applicable settings
will be merged.
This is a semantic change on the way posting styles are handled so, although
unikely, some of you might experience this change. I'll document this in a few
days.
Maybe this is also the right time to reconsider other possibe group parameters
and see if they wouldn't benefit from such a change. I use group parameters
almost only for posting styles, so I'm in no position to tell...
