The actual problem is that you have articles numbered all over the
place. You need to renumber the articles.

Funny you should ask; that is the correct solution.
Enter the group, mark all articles, and then move them all to the
current group. If they were spread out between 1 and 200, they will now
all be numbered consecutively starting at 201.
