gnus hangs while updating nnimap groups buffer

Hi *,

when starting Gnus or updating the group buffer with 'g', the
minibuffer says

   nnimap: Checking mailboxes ...

or sometimes

   nnimap: Mailbox Trash modified ...

and then nothing more happens.  I can stop it with 'C-g', but the
nnimap groups are displayed this way:

          INBOX                                     * / 0

But I can enter these groups, and read all mails, also new ones. 

I defined *imap-debug* and *imap-log*, but it does not help me any
further, because the output there is produced /after/ hitting C-g.
Would it be useful to post the contents of these buffers anyway?

What's going wrong here?

Try (setq debug-on-quit t) and post the backtrace you get when
pressing C-g.  I think *imap-log* content would be useful too, be sure
to kill the buffer before pressing 'g' so you only get fresh data.

Hi,

I attached the backtrace and the imap-log.  Minibuffer said
  nnimap: Mailbox Trash modified
before I hit C-g.

Hope this will show what's going wrong ...

All your debug logs suggest that you didn't wait long enough.  The
commands sent to the server were still pending in your IMAP protocol
dump.  Perhaps your server is simply slow, or have trouble handle many
STATUS requests simultaneous.  Try going for coffee and wait some
more, maybe it will finish then...

Thanks for your help, Simon but: I did.  Much coffee!  And I waited up to 3
hours, which should be enough, shouldn't it?  And I didn't have any problem
when using thunderbird, opera and evolution.  But I want Gnus!  :'(

I noticed one more thing: when updating the group buffer with 'C-u g', it's
all the same, but after hitting C-g, the display of the imap groups is
updated.  Means, the number of new articles are displayed in the group
buffer.  Not always correct, because when entering a group with e.g. 5 new
messages, only 2 are displayed then.  I suppose this has something to do  
with
the fact that I read mail with one of the mentioned programms in the  
meantime,
which I swear I will never do again, if this problem could be solved ...
