After having installed Otfried UTF-8 support, Gnus apparently started to use it automatically, and something appears to be wrong somewhere in the process. We agree on that evidence that there are a few problems in this area. At least one evident Emacs bug, to me, is insufficient documentation about Mule matters -- and documentation bugs are bugs.
