The main idea is to leave original articles alone, so I do not impose my own annotations to other people reading the same spool. This is less necessary for `nnml', which is often personal by nature, but yet, the same principles could be used there. Just to insist a bit, it looks essential to me that if we have annotations, these should be able to subtract parts of the messages, rendering them invisibly, and not just add text. Maybe that all message rendering could be rethought around annotations.
