I just received a multipart message that did not display correctly. The
message unfortunately contains sensitive information, so I can't post
it. However, let me describe its structure and what Gnus did with it.
This is with XEmacs 21.1.10 and the May 15th Gnus snapshot. The message
headers include the following:

MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: multipart/mixed;
        boundary="----=_NextPart_000_0018_01BFC414.DB4FE6E0"
X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.2014.211
X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.00.2014.211

The first part is a multipart/alternative, containing a text/plain part
and a text/html part. The second part is an application/msword part.
When I looked at the message, Gnus gave me a blank window and the
message:

Opening FTP connection to c...

appeared in the minibuffer area. After awhile, a button appeared for
the second part of the message. The first part never displayed. I have
no idea what that FTP business is about, since I see nothing in the
message itself that might have triggered it.

What other information can I provide, short of the message itself?

The headers in the parts might be useful.

Okay. How about if I just insert a sanitized version of the message
below? Do you see anything in there that might be triggering the
behavior I described? Also, I checked all of the anchor tags in the
HTML part, and they are all mailtos, so I still don't understand that
message about using FTP.

I'm not sure if this URL means that W3 wants to use ftp. It's a
strange URL.

Normally, file://host/path/to/file means to try to contact the host
using any protocol available. This often includes ftp. Now, your URL
looks strange, but it could be that some program intuits a host name
`C' or `C:' from this.

Aha! Thanks for spotting that. Yes, cleaning up the MIME damage, what
W3 will see is this, I think:

<META content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" http-equiv=Content-Type>
<BASE href="file://C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Stationery\">

That certainly is a weird URL. At any rate, it looks like W3 is causing
the behavior I'm seeing, not Gnus, so I'll take this elsewhere.

Thanks, Kai.
