With all the complaints about picons not working, I decided to see
what all the fuss was, and give them a try.

I downloaded the picons from indiana.edu, set the hooks, and
everything is cool

Now I have a couple of questions which should be simple.

I'm running XEmacs 21.0, PGnus 0.62.

1. My default background is black. Unfortunately, most picons have
tranparent backgrounds and text in black. This makes the text
unreadable, and I can't tell European flags apart without the text. :-)

What can I do to set the picons' backgrounds to be something
   different?

2. In info (Various->XEmacs Enhancements->Picons->Easy Picons), it
   mentions adding `gnus-picons-article-display-x-face' to
   `gnus-article-display-hook'. I have `gnus-article-display-x-face'
on there already, and I display my picons in the article buffer.

Should I change to picons' method? It seems like the only
difference is that I the X-Face in `gnus-header-name-face' instead
   of `gnus-x-face'.

Thanks for any answers.

Not necessarily, I think. Picons are displayed according to your From:
header. Faces are displayed if you have a X-Face: header in your message.
Personnaly, I display both faces and picons in the articles (I like to have
people's faces twice ;-).

Hm... I haven't seen this, really -- but perhaps I just haven't
noticed it. Could you give an example of a From line that displays
this?

That's not necessary.

Here is an example: `From: Lars Balker Rasmussen <lbr@image.dk>'.

Here is what I see when I bring it up normally:

[-- Attachment #2: ~/tmp/bad.gif" --]
[-- Type: message/external-body, Size: 97 bytes --]

[-- Attachment #3: Type: text/plain, Size: 148 bytes --]

What you don't realize is that there is a "Denmark" in the title.

When I select the region (I have zmacs-regions t), I can see the whole
picon:

[-- Attachment #4: ~/tmp/high.gif" --]
[-- Type: message/external-body, Size: 97 bytes --]

[-- Attachment #5: Type: text/plain, Size: 67 bytes --]

See the problem?

[ By the way, I really like mm.el. ]

I'm sorry, mm.el did not wrap my files. I need to upgrade, I guess.

Er... Well, what should one do about this? How is the picons code
supposed to transmogrify (some) of the colors in the picons? Anyone
got any ideas?

I guess you are looking at the long-term, hard solution. My
short-term solution is based on my expectations of the people who
create transparent icons.

I assume that the people who create transparent icons are the same
morons that set the foreground color of an HTML document, but not the
background color. All these people seem to assume that everyone is
using a light background.

All that I would need to be happy is to be able to set the background
of the picon. So if you could give me a `gnus-picon-face' to
customize, I would be more than grateful.
