I think it would be nice if you would try the customize package again, and see if it would be a disaster to release it now. Setting some of the variables from your `.gnus' would be a good test. Suggestions for how to divide some of the larger customize groups would be very helpful. There now is a customize submenu in the help menu. A known problem is that only the variables defined in already loaded files are available. The proper solution to this problem will require some cooperation from the (X)Emacs maintainers.
