/. is down, so getting new news from nnslashdot takes a long time,
then fails. To avoid the "takes long time" part, I tried to enter the
server buffer and Deny the server. However, gnus still tries to
contact slashdot. Shouldn't it ignore denied servers?

You should be able to `C-g' out of that when `g'-ing...

It should. Fix in CVS in a few jiffies.
