A few months ago the pgnus startup banner starting showing up in red
with smooth outlines. Lately it has reverted to the old yellow banner
drawn with short line segments. This happens with GNU Emacs 20.4 and
the newer prereleases, too.
Might be nice to have the niftier smooth outlines for 5.8.

GNU Emacs 20.4.1 (i586-pc-linux-gnu, X toolkit) of Fri Jul 16 1999 on

Maybe you lost the etc stuff? There's an etc tarball on ftp.gnus.org
which provides that nifty splash screen.

The reason is that it's not included in the CVS repository. My old
PGnus 0.98-tarball did include the etc/gnus/x-splash file.
(I'd like to see the logo in 5.8.0 too ;)
Cheers,

OK, that confirms it, this message's subject (and that of the message to which
this is a reply) is garbled by pgnus-v0.99.

I can't read the Japanese either, but they kind of look right in your
original article. In your reply, however, the Japanese characters
were replaced by escape codes.

Are you running with -unibyte or the like? It looks kinda Japanese to

Hm. Can one enter non-textual files into CVS?

Hey - it works! However, there's one red pixel above the gnu's left
horn/antler/whatever. Feature?

Could we include the bitmap in the main archive instead of just the etc
archive this time? So FSF Emacs users can see the splash screen? Emacs users
have little reason to download the entire etc archive since most of it is only
used on XEmacs, I suspect most people don't see the pretty splash screen.

Hm... Well, not that it makes much difference, but I think it might
be fairest to keep all the images in the etc package.
