I should have said, "Qmail is an Internet mail system." It is a collection of programs for handling Internet mail. qmail-inject is one of those programs; no, it does not speak SMTP, because that is a different program's job. All of which affects the point not at all. The operative term was "Internet"; sorry I didn't emphasize it.
