Subject: 0.47 bug or just something weird?

This is a little bizarre, as 0.42 works just fine, but 0.47 doesn't. I
suppose I could try 0.46 or 0.45, but if someone could enlighten
me... :-)
On a more sane machine, M-x describe-variable
current-language-environment says it's the result of the last run of
set-language-environment, which is a function that doesn't exist in
this XEmacs. Is this a MULE-only thing? If so, why won't PGnus 0.47
post news messages unless it can find this variable?
