I think Gnus is more important˛ than > lifeš. :-) How about both at once? Make Gnus display a game of Life while waiting for the nntp server, or movemail, or whatever. Just watching the numbers go by gets kind of dull after a while. Of course, XEmacs should have little (or big) Gnu glyphs moving around. We regular standard FSF GNU Emacs users would just have to suffer with the "@" patterns that the life package uses now....
