Hi All,

I'm trying to fix some damage I've done by trying to fix something that probably
wasn't broken. One of my nnml groups is showing that there are still 1004
articles in it, even though I recently archived them (Not using GNUS, but by
moving the mails to another folder). I tried manually fixing this by editing the
newsrc file, the newsrc.eld file, the active file and the .overview file (I know I
shouldn't have tried that...), but now it seems to be a real mess. This is
highly annoying, as GNUS rightly asks me before entering the group how many
articles I want to see. I have tried Kai's suggestion to 'C-u RET', 'M P a', 'B
m' the group, but this moves the unread count to 1003 and the total number of
articles to 1. When I then try and enter the group, the unread count goes to 0,
and the total number of articles in the group goes to 1004! Argle. Currently
the group has only one mail in it, file '3'. This is my group line format:

(setq gnus-group-line-format "%M%S%p%P%(%m [%2y] %-20,20g (%3R) %)%l\n")

So, two questions:
1. What is the *right* way to archive mail in GNUS?
2. Where is the extra thousand-or-so articles coming from and how do I resync
it?

I am very grateful for any assistance.

Cheers,
Ian
