It seems that recently when I send replies through Gnus, I am
occasionally embedding extra newlines. For example:
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=16826842

My NTEmacs version is "22.0.50.1", a fairly recent build from CVS.

In all the buffers I'm replying to that cause me problems, the mode
line starts with "-*". I'm afraid I don't understand how to parse my
mode-line format (quoted below, "%e" doesn't show up in the
documentation for that variable), so I don't know what that means, but
it does seem to be the distinguishing factor.

Can anyone help me fix this problem? Thanks!

=== mode-line-format ===

("%e"
 #("-" 0 1
(help-echo "mouse-1: select (drag to resize), mouse-2: delete others, mouse-3: delete this"))
 mode-line-mule-info mode-line-modified mode-line-frame-identification mode-line-buffer-identification
 #(" " 0 3
(help-echo "mouse-1: select (drag to resize), mouse-2: delete others, mouse-3: delete this"))
 mode-line-position
 (vc-mode vc-mode)
 #(" " 0 3
(help-echo "mouse-1: select (drag to resize), mouse-2: delete others, mouse-3: delete this"))
 mode-line-modes
 (which-func-mode
  ("" which-func-format
   #("--" 0 2
(help-echo "mouse-1: select (drag to resize), mouse-2: delete others, mouse-3: delete this"))))
 (global-mode-string
  (#("--" 0 2
(help-echo "mouse-1: select (drag to resize), mouse-2: delete others, mouse-3: delete this"))
   global-mode-string))
 #("-%-" 0 3
(help-echo "mouse-1: select (drag to resize), mouse-2: delete others, mouse-3: delete this")))

Ping?

New information: it only seems to happen when I reply to a message
with a "Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit" header. I'm pretty sure the
"%e" has something to do with buffer encoding.

Is there someplace else I should be posting this question?
