I think the problem is that gnus-thread-sort-by-date doesn't like the
pseudo-articles Gnus produces when building sparse threads. At any
rate, when I reported it to Lars a few days ago, he told me to expect
a fix in 5.6.24. (I *like* the way he sorts bug reports. :-))
