Actually there is an RFC detailing a set of headers used to communicate this information. That would be RFC2369. What it comes down to is that all/some/periodic messages from a list can include headers with instructions on dealing with the list server, and messages can include a unique identifier that designates messages from the list even if the server moves. The MUA is supposed to save the instructions in the headers and use them when presenting the user with some list manipulation functionality. Note that this RFC is pretty new and I'm pretty lame, so this list does not yet implement these headers. If someone feels like working on this stuff in Gnus, I'll be happy to set the list server up to give you something to test. - J<
