I think you misunderstood me.  I am the guy who gets mail sent to
ding-owner.  I.e. I run the list.  The bounces I see come from the mail
gateway refusing messages.  I don't get a lot of bounces, though, so it may
not explain every message that's not making it.

Upon closer inspection, this may actually point to a Gnus bug somewhere.
Here's a relevant excerpt; note the duplicated Content-Type: header:

Article not accepted by server; not posted.
