For instance, if someone posts a large bit of code related to something I'm working on, I might mark it dormant so that if someone follows-up responding with a highly-trimmed quote I will have the original available for context. Actually, I just use it for almost anything I want to go into the cache without distracting me every time I look in the group. In itself, dormant doesn't affect scoring - though like any mark, you can use it to do adaptive scoring. (I do, because if I've made something dormant, it's because it's a topic I'd like to track).
