All I tried to say is that it includes information about the *origin*
(not about copyright though [1]) of the files added in 2006 (not about
the older ones).

In order to avoid manual work with synchronizing, I'd suggest to
include emacs/etc/images/{,mail/,gnus/,smilies/}README unmodified in
Gnus so we don't need to manually pick out parts of the Emacs files.
It doesn't matter much IMHO that the top level README mentions some
files not present in Emacs. A separate file [2] there could explain
this fact an include the information from the current
gnus/etc/images/README which is not present in
emacs/etc/images/README.
Miles, could you please arrange this unless someone objects?
Bye, Reiner.
[1] When we (Bill Wohler and me) added the Gnome icons, Richard didn't
request it, IIRC. See the following threads...

http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.emacs.gnus.general/61185/focus=62021
[2] gnus/etc/README.images? gnus/etc/images/gnus.README or
README.gnus?
