I don't think so.

Not AFAIK. And I'd like to verify my guess is correct without
involving Gnus.

You can report the commands in Gnus though:

,----[ <f1> v nntp-record-commands RET ]
| nntp-record-commands is a variable defined in `nntp.el'.
| Its value is t
|
| Documentation:
| *If non-nil, nntp will record all commands in the "*nntp-log*" buffer.
`----

BTW, it's Gnus, not GNUS, see (info "(gnus)History").

Ulrich, please keep the mailing list <ding@gnus.org> copied. Other
developers aren't able to help you if you direct your replies only to
me.

Hm, im not an NNTP expert, but is the server's answer correct? You
requested "xover 96392-96392" and the server replied with data of
article 96395.

I.e. the article in the article buffer doesn't match the line in the
summary buffer?

Last time I heard about this, it turned out that the overview of the
news server was corrupted.

I tried to reproduce the problem with comp.language.postscript, but
the thread in question has been expired from my server.

If you'd like to debug, try the following commands and post the output:

telnet YourServer nntp
MODE READER
GROUP comp.language.postscript
XOVER 96392-96392
ARTICLE 96392

(96392 is the article number from your screen shot)

Bye, Reiner.
