I hesitate to pollute `mm-charset-synonym-alist' by adding entries for
each and every pilot error.

In my news spool (Usenet and lots of mailing lists from Gmane) there
are more than 65000 messages.  Only the following articles have a
bogus "utf8" charset (< 0.01%):

All from Evolution.  According to
<http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=525221> it is fixed there
now.  Not adding it in `mm-charset-synonym-alist' might help to fix
broken MUAs/NUAs.  ;-)

BTW, I seem to recall that using (define-coding-system-alias 'utf8
'utf-8) might trigger Gnus into creating charset=utf8.
