That's my conclusion as well.  Now that EasyPG is included in
Emacs 23, users could probably use the `auto-compression-mode'-like
feature (under discussion/development?) for ~/.authinfo, too.

ACK, diverging sources should be avoided.  As i understand, encrypt.el
can now be used optionally in netrc.el so both versions (Emacs trunk
and Gnus trunk) should be identical.
