I've been seeing a lot of gibberish in posts on some lists of late.
Turns out they are posted in utf-7....

5.10.2 has a utf7.el, but it seems to be imap-specific -- and even
shows a difference between its output and iconv(1)'s....

Or is that between mule's utf7.el's output and iconv(1)'s???

Anyway, iconv does decode the articles in question, so what do I need
to get gnus to do so on its own?

The old utf7.el only handled ISO-8859-1, I think, which might explain
the differences.

A recent Emacs? I think recent emacsen support UTF-7 directly.

In <URL:http://theotp1.physik.uni-ulm.de/~ste/comp/emacs/gnus/
rs-gnus-article-wash.el>, there's `rs-gnus-article-treat-utf7'.

I don't think so. But maybe we should add Dave's patch (I didn't try
it):
