I do think the observation is pertinent to the issue at hand, however. For if John Smith who is not on the list posts and I have ding@gnus.org in the to-address/to-list parameter (I always forget which one), then John will not receive a copy of my answer. I presume that John would like a copy of my answer, since sending his question directly to the bit-bucket would be much cheaper and faster and achieve the same result.
