I used to use the with-parent splitting, too, and now I use Sieve for
splitting.  I emulate the with-parent splitting by putting a cookie
in the message id which Sieve can look at.  Maybe that's workable for
you, too.

Of course, this requires the other end to set up a proper References
header.  But this is the same for with-parent splitting.
