Gnus is supposed to do that automatically. It binds url-standalone (I think that's the variable name) to t while displaying the article. I just looked at a piece of spam, and Gnus _attempted_ to show lots of images, but failed. Not sure if that means that url-standalone works... kai -- Simplification good! Oversimplification bad!
