That's what I did, too. I'm sure that Supercite will someday support SGnus or the other way round so that this will be simpler in the future. Lars, what about adding a message-do-citation-stuff function to message.el that could be put in the message-cite-hook? This way, you could tell people to (remove-hook 'message-cite-hook 'message-do-citation-stuff) (add-hook 'message-cite-hook 'sc-cite-original) to use SC.
