A couple of questions...

1) Has anyone set up NTEmacs to both read and send mail (and post
messsages) from gnus (message.el)? If so, how did you manage it?

2) POP3 &| STMP. Can it be done? Is it done?

3) Is there a good description anywhere of the current backends? I
know ... "Read the source, Luke" ... but I am thinking of an answer
more suitable to a FAQ. I seems there is a lot of nnthis, nnthat,
and nntheotherthing. Some of their purposes are obvious to me
(nntp), some make a sort of half sense (nnkiboze --- I know what it
is supposed to do, but not how.), and some I just don't know at all
(nnsoup --- what is SOUP anyway?).

4) Since I checked the Gnus 5.x FAQ, the Gnus Info files (as of
5.2.20, anyway), and the NTEmacs FAQ before asking these questions,
my last question is this: Was there a better place to find the
answers to the above questions than posting to this ML?

I think I'm using it with gnus-5.2.19. I hope I haven't lost any
message for the moment ... My .gnus follows.

Michael> 2) POP3 &| STMP. Can it be done? Is it done?

I'm reading mail by POP3 and sending it by SMTP with smtpmail.el

Not yet.

The only glitch is that reading mail with POP3, gnus fetch the mailbox
once per mail group (or am I wrong ?).

I have yet to add tm-mime to my configuration.

Go to the Info documentation, see the node `Choosing a Mail Backend'.
Though I admit that maybe there should be an overview over *all* the
backends, not just the mail ones.

And I'm using it with gnus-5-2-22 with no problems. I won't include
my .gnus file since Fabrice already provided his.

> Michael> 2) POP3 &| STMP. Can it be done? Is it done?

Yes, to use POP3, just set nnmail-spool-file to something like
"po:username", where "po:" is a literal, and "username" is your
username. You also must have movemail on your path (part of the NT
emacs distribution) and must set the MAILHOST environment variable to
the hostname of the machine that runs POP. You need to (setq
nnmail-pop-password-required t) if your POP server requires a password
(which it probably will).

To use SMTP, get the smtpmail.el package and set
message-send-mail-function to 'smtpmail-send-it. You need to load or
require the smtpmail package.

The problem that Fabrice speaks about with Gnus running POP for each
mail group is fixed in 5.2.22.
