Subject: Canceling with Gnus 5.6.4?
Date: 30 Mar 1998 15:39:14 +0200	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <vafogyocn7h.fsf@ramses.cs.uni-dortmund.de> (raw)

I think this has come up before but I don't think there was any real
conclusion. Now that I've stumbled into the problem, too, I'll add by
twopence, as well.

If a posting has a Sender header and if the variable user-mail-address
is set, then message-cancel-news checks to see if they're the same and
doesn't allow canceling if they're different.

IMVHO, this is completely bogus. Why on earth would I want to set
user-mail-address if it was the same as Gnus computes by default in
the first place? And message-make-sender returns pretty much exactly
what Gnus computes by default.

I set by mail address to be "grossjohann@..." rather than
"grossjoh@..." because I find the former to be more mnemonic. Am I to
be handicapped because of this?

Also, at our site, we prefer mail address "jrl@ls6.cs.uni-dortmund.de"
rather than "jrl@HOST.cs.uni-dortmund.de" where HOST is the machine
one happens to sit at that day, because "ls6" is a canonic description
of our working group.
