nntp server forgot how to do NOV?

I used to see full threads due to (setq gnus-fetch-old-headers t)
until yesterday.  Today, I don't.  I can still do `^' on a message to
fetch the parent, but I can't do `A T' to fetch the whole thread.  `A
T' fails with an error message to the effect that the server doesn't
grok NOV.

I vaguely remember that I saw somebody say how to find out whether the
server groks NOV, or whether it's a Gnus problem.  But because NOV has
been working for me since the days of (ding) Gnus, I never bothered to
remember this.

But now I'm afraid I need this...
