The first line retrieved by the RETR command is the first line of a
message.  How do you know whether the message comes from
/var/spool/mail/jrl, or from ~jrl/Maildir/42, or from Informix, or
from the Oracle of Delphi?  You don't know that.  It is only a single
message, no more, no less.
