I'm seeing this, too, with sgnus-0.54 on Emacs-19.30 on SunOS 4.1.4.
I just exited sgnus, then removed all of these nodes except for one,
then entered sgnus, read one mail message in mail.misc, then I exited
the mail.misc group and said `s' in the *Group* buffer. Now I've got
this thing four times in my .newsrc.eld. Seems to create new ones
fast...
