This function appears, err, suboptimal. It frobs the message body,
too, contrary to the docstring. Is there something which frobs a
single message before it is recorded? That could easily be
restricted to just the header only.

Probably due to slow regexp code in Emacs.
Perhaps using gnus-article-remove-leading-whitespace or
gnus-treat-leading-whitespace is more efficient.
