Well, if Gnus starts writing articles with low numbers, that's a clear
indication that it has gotten confused. Have you been real careful
with nnml-generate-nov-databases? Such as setting nnml-get-new-mail
to nil before you invoked a new Gnus for this command?
Try this:
- Quit Gnus, quit Emacs
- Remove all .overview files
- Put (setq nnml-get-new-mail nil) in .gnus or .emacs
- Start Emacs
- Start Gnus
- Do nnml-generate-nov-databases
- Exit Gnus, exit Emacs
- Remove the (setq nnml-get-new-mail nil)
In particular: do nothing else between starting Gnus and running
nnml-generate-nov-databases!
Do a sanity check on the .overview files. Do they contain the right
message numbers?
