In my private mail exchange with Lars I asked him what actually the
difference between the old and new code is. I hope Lars doesn't mind
that I'm going to publish his answer here:
,----[ Lars in a private mail ]
| Finding out whether two select methods are "equal" is actually kinda
| tricky in Gnus since I was way too sloppy back when I started doing
| that stuff. So the functions are complicated, and there a lot that
| might go wrong...
`----
I would also be happy if there is any person who can disprove my opinion
that the new code introduces a bug. Isn't really anyone out there using
Debian Sid with a recent Gnus + standard Debian Emacs package and reads
mail via Courier IMAP?
As mentioned many times before this bug _only_ shows up on Debian Sid
(tested on two different W2k machines) and can be removed by undoing
Lars' changes (I have successfully tested this!). I can hardly believe
that I'm the only one world-wide who discovered this... :-)
Regards,
Marcus
